Prioritising Self-Care in Times of Transition

The past few weeks have been a lot. Between bouncing between night shifts and early shifts at work, (yes, my sleep schedule is as confused as it sounds). And guess what? It forced me to hit the pause button and get serious about self-care. It was a wake-up call (literally, at odd hours) to keep my focus and stay in the flow.

If you’ve ever juggled major shifts in your schedule—or even in your life—you know how disorienting it can be. Adjusting to new rhythms takes time, patience, and, most importantly, compassion for yourself.

It’s been a journey—one filled with naps, snacks, and learning to give myself a little grace. So, let’s chat about how prioritising self-care has helped me stay sane during this transition and how it can do the same for you, no matter what life’s throwing your way.

Today, I want to share how self-care has been my anchor during this time, and perhaps inspire you to embrace it in your own life transitions.

So, let’s break it down Focus & Flow style, with practical self-care tips to help you stay grounded, laser-focused, and ready to conquer life’s curveballs.

1. Get Clear: Prioritise Rest Like a Boss

When my body screamed, “We’re tired!” I finally listened. Sleep became non-negotiable. I stopped trying to power through and gave myself permission to nap like a pro. Bedtime routines became sacred (think calming tea, comfy blankets, and no scrolling).

Pro Tip: If your body’s begging for rest, give it some. A well-rested you is a happier, more focused you.

2. Energise the Flow: Snacks and Sips for the Win

Switching up my shifts threw my body out of whack, so I had to get strategic about keeping my energy levels steady. I made sure to eat meals that actually fueled me and kept a water bottle close. Bonus points for sneaking in brain food like nuts, fruit, and the occasional chocolate (because balance, right?).

Try This: Keep healthy(ish) snacks handy and hydrate like it’s your job. Your body will thank you.

3. Find Micro-Joys: Recharge in the Moment

When my schedule felt like chaos, joy became my anchor. Even on my busiest days, I carved out time for little joys—creating pretty spreads in my journals, (more of that in future newsletters!) sipping wine, or playing my favorite songs on repeat. These little joys reminded me that even on busy days, there’s space to recharge.

Focus & Flow Reminder: Joy is fuel. Even tiny moments of happiness can recenter your focus and keep your flow alive.

4. Stay Flexible: Permission to Be Imperfect

Self-care doesn’t always look Instagram-worthy. Some days it was a nap; other days, it was zoning out with a guilty-pleasure TV show. And you know what? That’s totally fine. The point isn’t to be perfect—it’s to be kind to yourself. Letting go of the pressure to “do it all” and focusing on what actually helps in the moment.

Focus & Flow Mantra: Progress beats perfection every time. Be kind to yourself, adjust as needed, and keep moving forward.

Let’s Bring It Back to You

Life is full of transitions, challenges, and unexpected shifts (pun intended). Staying focused and in the flow starts with tuning in to what you need and making time for it.

So, here’s my challenge for you: Pick one thing you can do today to take care of you. Maybe it’s an extra hour of sleep, a meal you actually sit down to enjoy, or just saying “no” to something that drains you.

Self-care is how we recharge our focus and keep the flow alive. Because when we’re at our best, we’re unstoppable.
Self-care isn’t a luxury; it’s how we keep ourselves from burning out. And when we take care of ourselves, we’re better at, well… everything else!

You’ve got this. Go be amazing (and well-rested).
